Common Questions
What is therapy useful for? Therapy offers a safe, confidential place where you can explore and understand yourself, examine and adjust a difficult aspect of life, or simply be seen and heard by someone who cares. Together and at your pace, we can use our sessions to help with a variety of difficulties such as anxiety management, processing traumatic experiences, and working through loss. Therapy helps us not only resolve specific issues, but also embeds insight and self-understanding that we can continue to apply throughout our lives.
What should I consider when choosing a therapist? The most important factor in therapy is your relationship with your therapist. A lot of the benefit of therapy comes from working through things within a relationship of mutual trust, interest, and a compatible working style. The best way to assess this is by reaching out and having a free assessment session- that way you can get a feel for the person you’re talking to, and can answer important questions like ‘can I imagine myself working with this person? Are they the right fit for me?’. The type of therapy used can also be important. For instance, TA translates deep psychological processes into practical, clear language that connects with the core of the issue.
Why not use a free service instead? Free and very low-cost therapy services are a great thing- when you can access them. The unfortunate reality is that most free services have extensive waiting lists due to high demand, sometimes lasting multiple months or even over a year. With private therapy, you can quickly get the support you need.
How long does therapy last? Sessions last 60 minutes. The number of sessions we spend together varies based on the goals of our work and the depth of the difficulty you face- it really depends on the individual. I don’t artificially cap clients to a certain number of sessions, as this doesn’t reflect the reality of life.
How much does therapy cost? My standard rate is £45 per 60 minute session. For people who would struggle to pay this, I offer a reduced price when I am able to do so. If you feel this would apply to you, please discuss this with me during our free 30-minute assessment call to see if it is available.
